A Variety of Tours to Choose From

Knowledgable and Friendly Guides

Tours that Emphasize Island Sustainability
Experience true Hawaii as Kauai Eco-Tours takes you on an unforgettable journey. Our informed and friendly guides are local to Kauai and knowledgeable in the geology, the history, the flora and fauna unique to the garden island of Kauai. Our hiking tours are nature oriented, conducted one-on-one or in small groups, encouraging participants to meld with the environment to enhance the experience. Choose from several tour options to suit your areas of interest and physical capability. A snack and drink will be provided with all tours.

Kuilau trail
An excursion for those who want to see beautiful sites and learn some things about the island but are not necessarily able to withstand a strenuous hiking experience. Emphasis on plants, birds, geology, ancient and/or recent history. Extensive areas of this trail are shaded by a varied canopy of indigenous trees, many of them ancient and immense. On a clear day, to the West you will see the majestic Mount Waialeale with the Lihue Basin in the distance. You'll even see a side of Nounou (the "Sleeping Giant") that few visitors ever see. Additionally you will get a breathtaking close-up view of the majestic Makaleha Mountains.

Kuilau trail with Moalepe Inclusion
For those wanting more of a challenge and a greater immersion in the area, this optional tour addition that goes up the Kuilau Trail and down the Moalepe trail will provide exceptional views of Kapa'a with the ocean in the distance.

Nounou Trail - Eastern Approach
This tour is not for those with vertigo or a fear of heights. An ambitious tour which offers a strenuous hike up the face of Nounou - the "Sleeping Giant." Narrow portions of the trail lead along sheer drops. But, it is well
worth the adventure. Alternating between tree covered areas and exposed switchbacks, the trail traverses the mountain with increasingly spectacular views of The Giant, as you approach the summit.

Nounou Trail - Western Approach
This is the quickest way to the top of Nounou - the "Sleeping Giant." Though shorter than the Eastern approach trail, it is just as strenuous given that the trail becomes increasingly steep as you approach the top. But you are rewarded as the trail moves through a peaceful forest consisting of dense stands of Guava, Norfolk Pine, Kukui Nut and other indigenous trees. Upon final approach to the summit you'll experience breathtaking views of Wailua Valley and the Lihue Basin, magnificently back-dropped with cloud-shrouded mountains.

Kuamo'o Trail
This is the number one choice for those most interested in learning about the flora and fauna of the island. While covering more ground than either of the Nounou Trail tours to reach the top of the Sleeping Giant, the majority of the terrain is more level and is often shaded by the forest canopy. Your guide will point out the wide array of plants and birds that you will no doubt see on this trail excursion. The push to the top of the Giant is difficult, but well worth it to experience the views from the summit.

We will also offer a shorter version of this tour to the Kuamo'o picnic area for those who want to be able to see some nice views of the Wailua river valley but do not want to hike the entire mountain. This will be a very short 1 hour tour with food, and will focus on areas of knowledge you are interested in.

Please inquire about our additional, more strenuous, hikes for experienced adventurers. Through the interior of the island from Wailua to Princeville, or down and along the cliffs at the top of the island.
